We recognized that the traditional structure of the industry, which primarily compensates advisers through sales and commissions, has led to conflicts of interest and a lack of trust between the clients and their advisers.
To better understand what clients truly want from their adviser, we conducted a two-year-long focus group with clients from varying economic backgrounds. Through this focus group, we learned three distinct lessons:
- The three primary areas of life that matter most to clients are health, relationships, and finances. Of these three areas, only finances can be delegated.
- We learned a client's portfolio is more than just investments or insurance. A portfolio includes estate planning, business planning, tax planning, mortgage planning, and more. Simply, a client’s portfolio should operate like a well-oiled machine.
- Clients want to delegate the management of their finances to a trusted adviser, but only if certain factors are in place:
- The adviser who has a limited number of clients, ensuring that they have 100% of their adviser's attention.
- How the adviser is getting paid, so there are no hidden fees or conflicts of interest.
- The adviser to complete background checks and examine any specialist the adviser introduces to them, such as estate planning attorneys or tax experts. We call these specialists "deliverables" because they deliver specific expertise to a client’s portfolio
- Clients want their adviser to coordinate, prepare, and facilitate every portfolio meeting to ensure their time is not wasted.
In summary, we learned that clients want a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to guide them in nearly every aspect of their portfolio. Our retention rate is above 98% after fifteen years, proves that our approach works. We are committed to providing clients with the best financial advice and services possible, making us the trusted adviser that clients deserve.
